This week on Project:MMO we play DC Universe Internet Game… no wait, it’s DC Universe Online. Piper and Micah fly around, smash barrels, throw cars, assist fleshy super villain, and fight a flying prostitute that claims to be a relative of Superman.

Here at Gaming With Scissors we love The Humble Bundle project. It is a great way to give to reputable charity and receive video games as a gift for your donation.

What is The Humble Bundle

If you are unfamiliar with the Humble Bundle, here is the low-down:

1. Create an account @ humblebundle.com
2. Choose how much money you would like to donate (give at least $1.00)
3. Decide how you would like to spread out your donation between the charity that Humble Bundle is supporting at that given time (this week it is the Electronic Frontier Foundation and Child’s Play)
4. Acquire a steam code or direct download link to install the game/games you are getting as a gift for donating
5. Depending on the week you may get more gifts depending on the amount donated

You may or may not know this, but the newest iteration of Microsoft’s wonder machine was unveiled today. It’s name? Xbox One. Now, before we go into the reveal and address the rumors and facts, let’s address the name. The name seems to strike a major chord with people and their likelihood to even take this console seriously. What people seem to fail to grasp is that Microsoft doesn’t have to follow any type of naming scheme. They don’t have to go “Xbox 720″. They don’t have to go “Xbox Infinity”. They can go wherever they want. Sequential numbers are boring. Xbox, Xbox 2, Xbox 3… just doesn’t sound good. Neither does Playstation, Playstation 2, or Playstation 3, or even Playstation 4. It’s too bland. You know who else didn’t follow a sequential numbering system? Apple. They went from the iPad, to the iPad 2, to “The iPad”. So now, we have Xbox One.

Why “one”? Why not 720? Why not Xbox 3? First off, the 360′s name came from the idea of being able to have a 360 degree feel for the world around you while in a game. Also, from a marketing standpoint, calling it the Xbox 2 would look inferior to the Playstation 3, which was it’s biggest rival at the time. Xbox One, emphasis on the “one”, is a rally cry to be THE one entertainment machine you will ever need. I mean, let’s face it, it does it all: watch Blu-Ray (a few years too late some might say), plays and records in 1080p with the Kinect, Skype, watch TV programming, and even DVR your games.

But many rumors plague any release because critics will be the first to scream “I DON’T LIKE XYZ AND THE ANNOUNCED FEATURES ZXY!” Gaming sites all over are releasing conflicting information and speculation, while disregarding the facts Microsoft have acknowledged. The following addresses these rumors and what we actually KNOW.

1.Used Games – You can play used games. Major Nelson confirmed.

“We know there is some confusion around used games on Xbox One and wanted to provide a bit of clarification on exactly what we’ve confirmed today. While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, today we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail.

Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios.”

Nothing has really been confirmed.

2. Always Online Connectivity – You are not required to be online to play, however game saves, achievements, etc, will be saved in the cloud. So this “always-on” scenario is largely false.

3. Backwards Compatibility – This part sucks. With no backwards compatibility AND no Xbox Live Arcade transfers, you’re basically starting from square one on your collection. However, newer Playstation 3 units don’t allow backwards compatibility, either.

4. Every Other Rumor – We’ve only heard one side of it. E3 is in a few weeks, and gaming is a HUGE cornerstone of that convention. Game-related functions, news, and other things will be announced then. A little patience can go a long way.

I know I personally will be keeping my ears and eyes peeled for E3 in a few weeks, with hopes of more game-related news and information to come. Judging solely off today’s presentation, however, I’d have to say there is more left to be desired (see: clarified)

We just wanted to say thank you to everyone that takes the time to watch our terrible videos, read our silly reviews, comment on our insane Facebook posts, and RT all the nonsense we have to say. Thank you guys so much, and make sure you check back. This year will hold some great new things and we hope you are there to join us.
